Andy has been inducted into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall
of Fame, the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame, the Automotive
Hall of Fame, American National Business Hall of Fame, some 22 Halls
of Fame in various categories (which some believe is worthy of a Guinness
Book of World Records designation). Coming soon: The Andy Granatelli
Hall of Fame Museum, under construction now, in Auburn, Indiana.
As recognizable as the name Granatelli is in the racing world and even
among the general public, there is one place where the name is not just
well-known, but held in near reverence: Indianapolis, Indiana. In 2000,
The Granatelli-designed-and-built turbine racer that led both the ‘67 and ‘68 Indy 500
now rests at the Smithonian in Washington D.C. (above); Andy (in red jacket) and

All 33 drivers are in attendance for final
instructions and press introductions the day
before the race. The large Borg-Warner trophy
(in front) is the one that one of those drivers’
faces (which turned out to be Pole Position
winner Scott Dixon) would be etched upon;
the smaller trophy is what the winner would
get to take home. Helio Castroneves (fourth
from left, front row) had just finished his stint
on “Dancing With The Stars,” which he won
with professional dance partner Julianne
Hough. Across from Helio is Danica Patrick
(fourth from right).
