Whitney
McDonnell
& Dave Barbarics
hitney McDonnell and Dave
Barbarics were married on September 28,
2013, at the Montecito Country Club. The
couple met in Manhattan Beach and dated for a few years before
becoming engaged on a weekend getaway to Catalina Island.
On the morning of September 1, 2012, the couple set sail
for the island, with Whitney’s father and her good friend Darcy
in tow. After arriving, Dave asked Whitney to go with him on
a hike, where he planned on popping the question. Whitney
declined, citing the heat and fatigue. Dave quickly devised a
backup plan; he asked her to join him for a beer on the bow of
the boat. She said yes, and when Dave came to meet her, she
saw that instead of carrying two beer bottles in his hands, he was
clutching a small box. He got down on one knee and asked for
her hand in marriage.
Two weeks after the proposal, Whitney chose her wedding
shoes while shopping on the island of Capri. Her Marchesa dress
was later found at The White Dress, an iconic bridal store in
Newport Beach, where Whitney grew up.
The couple, who lives in Southern California, chose
Montecito as a wedding destination which would not be
too far for wedding guests to travel. The Club’s gorgeous
fireplaces, vaulted wood beam ceilings, and the massive window
overlooking the golf course and ocean quickly sold the couple.
After being married on the Club’s ocean view lawn, the
couple and their guests enjoyed a sunset cocktail hour, followed
by the reception. They went for a soft, romantic feel, bringing
in fluffy blush tone roses with green accents, votive candles, and
mercury glass.
