Julian Nott
is a British-born U.S. citizen who lives on the Santa Barbara
Riviera, just a water pistol squirt from Montecito. He is a
founder of the modern ballooning movement and one of
its most active exponents. During his long and extraordinary
career he has broken 81 World Ballooning Records, and 96
British Records, including exceeding 55,000 feet in a hot air
balloon (the capsule he created for that ascent now resides
in the Smithsonian).
Professor Nott has the unusual distinction of being a Senior
Member of the American Institute of Aeronautics, Member of
the elite Society of Experimental Test Pilots, and the only pilot
in the history of the Society elected for experimental piloting
of balloons. He is also the first balloonist ever to receive the Gold Medal of the Royal
Aero Club. Nott has received numerous other awards including the FAI Montgolfier
Diploma, the highest international award for ballooning, and a Rolex Award for
Enterprise. For more details please see www.nott.com.
Hattie Beresford
is a native of the Netherlands, and received her Bachelor’s
degree and teaching credential from University of California
Santa Barbara. She taught English and American history for
Santa Barbara School District for many years. She retired
from teaching in 2004 and has been actively pursuing her
twin passions of historical research and writing through her
column, “The Way It Was,” for Montecito Journal (Weekly).
When she is not immersed in some dusty tome, she can be
found on the tennis courts, hiking trails, or out on a kayak
marveling at the dolphins. She and her husband, former Dos
Pueblos volleyball coach Mike Beresford, are avid campers
and travelers.
Judy Foreman
is originally from Chicago, where she was a history teacher,
but moved to Los Angeles in the mid-1970s to become a
partner in a fashion accessories manufacturing business. A
resident of Montecito since 1988, Ms Foreman has been a
regular columnist for Montecito Journal since 1998, writing
about fitness, beauty, health, new businesses, fashion and
also doing personality profiles.
Justin Iselin
is almost a native Montecito resident, having lived here
since the age of three. After studying architecture at Cal
Poly in San Luis Obispo and abroad in Florence, Italy, and
Copenhagen, Denmark he returned home to work for
Warner Group Architects. While his passion revolves around
architecture and traveling, he’s often found at the beach
when not otherwise gainfully employed.
Lisa Cullen
, co-owner of Montecito Landscape with her husband, Chris,
is an avid organic gardener, cook, and promoter of local
farmers and sustainable agriculture. She and her husband
have tended Montecito and Santa Barbara gardens with
loving care for over 25 years. You can hear her on Garden
Gossip Radio Show, Fridays & Saturdays at 11am on 1290AM.
Joanne A. Calitri
is on the faculty at Brooks Institute, and works as a
documentary photographer; she is also a news reporter,
photojournalist, and has covered Montecito and Santa
Barbara in words and photographs for Montecito Journal for
nearly a decade.
Lindsey Eltinge
is a family, animal, and commercial photographer and
graduate of Brooks Institute of Photography. She is married
to Lt. Evan Eltinge, a recent graduate of West Point. Lindsey
has donated her photography talents to DAWG, Rotary, and
local schools. She devotes the remainder of her time to her
birds and her beloved long hair Chihuahua, Beethoven. To

Lynda Millner
is author of “The Magic Make Over, Tricks for Looking Thinner,
Younger, and More Confident – Instantly” and has been a
regular columnist for Montecito Journal weekly for nearly
fourteen years. She and her husband, Don Seth, spend
much of their time traveling and retrieving errant golf
balls from the nearby Montecito Country Club, as their
spacious home overlooks the golf course.
Kia McInerny
is an author and attorney whose wine and travel essays
have appeared in such forums as Decanter, Silver Kris,
Lexus and Sommelier. Kia’s writing has taken her to
France, Italy, Austria, Argentina and New Zealand. A
member of Anthony Dias Blue’s wine-tasting panel,
Kia resides in Montecito and Los Angeles with her
photographer-husband.
Thedim Fiste
has lived in Montecito for over 22 years and has written
the popular “Coming & Going” column for Montecito
Journal covering “gossip, rumor, and innuendo” since its
inception as a community newspaper. He is married with
children and insists he “lives in a van parked down by
the shore” only because he is at philosophical odds over
paying property taxes.
