Hattie Beresford
is a native of the Netherlands, and received her
Bachelor’s degree and teaching credential from University
of California Santa Barbara. She taught English and
American history for Santa Barbara School District for
many years and retired from teaching in 2004. When not
immersed in some dusty tome, she can be found on the
tennis courts, hiking trails, or out on a kayak marveling at
the dolphins. Hattie and her husband, former Dos Pueblos
volleyball coach Mike Beresford, are avid campers and
travelers.
James Buckley
, founder and original editor/publisher of Montecito
Journal, has lived in Montecito with his family since 1986.
James keeps his vintage Calvados under tight surveillance
whenever Thedim Fiste – who lives nearby – visits.
Justin Iselin
has lived in Montecito since the age of three. After
studying architecture at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and
abroad in Florence, Italy and Copenhagen, Denmark, he
returned home to work for the Warner Group Architects.
While his passion revolves around architecture and
traveling, he’s often found at the beach when not
otherwise gainfully employed.
Steven Libowitz
has reported on the arts and entertainment for more
than 30 years, has published his work in daily and weekly
newspapers in New Jersey and California, as well as Santa
Barbara magazine, and has contributed to a nationally
syndicated news service. When not at his computer or out
on the town, you’ll often find him playing volleyball at East
Beach, just a short jog from Montecito’s Butterfly Beach.
Joanne A. Calitri
is on the faculty at Brooks Institute, and is an international
documentary photographer. She is also a news reporter
and photojournalist, covering news in Montecito and
Santa Barbara for Montecito Journal for nearly a decade.

is a family, animal, and commercial photographer and
graduate of Brooks Institute of Photography. She is married
to Lt. Evan Eltinge, a recent graduate of West Point.

her time to her birds and Beethoven, her beloved long hair
Chihuahua. To view her gallery visit www.lindseyeltinge.

Lynn P. Kirst
is a fourth-generation Californian and a lifelong
equestrienne who grew up in Montecito. She holds a degree
in Art History from the University of Southern California and
a Graduate Certificate in Historic Preservation from the USC
School of Architecture. After a successful museum career
during which she held senior development positions at the
Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Laguna Art Museum,
and the Southwest Museum, Kirst established Spectrum Tours
in Santa Barbara, organizing luxury educational tours for
nearly three dozen institutions throughout the United States,
which gave her, among many other things, an opportunity to
visit illustrious gardens throughout North and South America,
Asia and Europe.
Matthew Kustura
earned a B.A. in English Literature at UCSB and is
a Learning Specialist at Marymount of Santa Barbara.
He enjoys teaching, surfing, playing guitar at State and
A in Santa Barbara, and learning from his 4-year-old
daughter. Recent adventures include climbing Mt. Whitney
in one day and snorkeling with students in the clear waters
of Catalina.
Thedim Fiste
has lived in Montecito for over two decades and
counting and has written the popular “Coming & Going”
column for Montecito Journal, covering “gossip, rumor,
and innuendo” since its inception in 1995 as a community
newspaper. Mr. Fiste is married but confesses to a
longstanding weakness towards vintage Calvados and
French women of all ages.
