Although they had anticipated a cool evening after sundown, the
couple swapped space heaters for umbrellas as the temperature
peaked at 95 degrees. The three-tiered strawberry, chocolate, and
Jack Daniel’s-spiced cake was lovingly baked by the mother of the
bride, Becky Gallup.
The couple honeymooned in Tahiti, visiting Moorea and Bora
Bora. They welcomed their first child, son Brody, late last year

A
t the autumn 2007 wedding of Lauren Flaster and
Christian Vigeland, the groom enlisted the help of the
couple’s dog, Nigel, as ring bearer, carrying the wedding
bands down the aisle in a pouch around his neck. The bride’s sister,
Katie Flaster, was deputized to perform the brief ceremony; the pair
decided to forgo the traditional bridal party.
The couple met through mutual friends while living in Santa
Monica, and wanted to choose a meaningful and beautiful venue for
their nuptials; they settled on the East Valley Road estate belonging
to the bride’s grandparents, Dorothy and Stanley Flaster. Mrs. Flaster
planned the event, to take place on the lawn near a stream that runs
through the garden.
As the 70 guests mingled, Montecito’s infamous sundowner winds
took hold, and a haze of ash from the Zaca Fire – Santa Barbara
County’s largest fire in history, which had only been contained
a month earlier – rained down on the bride and groom. Lauren,
wearing a simple gown by Morgane Le Fay, believes the ash was a
good omen for her marriage.
In keeping with the relaxed vibe of the wedding, the couple decided
upon an ‘upscale’ barbecue. After hors d’oeuvres were passed, Santa
Barbara’s Duo Catering & Events prepared grilled salmon, tri-tip and
roasted vegetables. The cake was an untraditional simple chocolate
cake with ganache; the one detail the groom asked to choose.
The morning after the wedding, the couple packed up Nigel and
their bikes and headed up the coast to Carmel to honeymoon; they
extended their trip by driving up to the Russian River Valley. Mr. and
Mrs. Flaster were left to clean up the ashy mess, but the newlyweds
made sure to leave lots of leftover cake to sweeten the deal.
