Nicholas and Lauren
Gonzalez
Earlier this year, this young couple got the surprise of a lifetime when
hotel tycoon and Beanie Baby founder Ty Warner offered to host their
wedding at the San Ysidro Ranch, recently named the #1 resort in the
U.S. and Canada by
Travel + Leisure
magazine. Nick and Lauren, who
met at the Ranch, where they were both employed, planned a low-key
and inexpensive wedding at a nearby park. Their wedding was to be picnic
style, with relatives bringing potluck, bright fiesta colors, and even plastic
plates and silverware.
Then, one month before their scheduled wedding, Warner approached
the bride and groom and asked them to hold the wedding at the Ranch.
An area above the pool had been newly renovated and landscaped, and
Warner wanted to try out the venue for a special event rental; the couple
was asked to hold the wedding there as a test run!
Of course they agreed, and were married one day later than they
originally had planned: May 8, 2010. “We didn’t mind this at all,
although,” Lauren laments, “now we have a box full of matchbooks that
we’d already ordered as wedding favors that read ‘Nicholas and Lauren
Gonzalez – May 7th, 2010!’”
The couple feels very blessed to have been given the opportunity to
have been married at a world-class resort. “It felt truly special to begin our
married life together at the place where we met,” Mrs. Gonzalez said.
