adventure. She looks forward to pursuing graduate school;
future plans include publishing her own magazine.

Tampa Review Prize for Poetry and was published by
the University of Tampa Press, 2010. He has published
two nonfiction books about growing up in Montecito-
Santa Barbara: “Cruising State” (1994), and “Sleep Walk”

travel essays have appeared internationally as well as
in the U.S. Kia’s interviews with noted collectors about
their passion for wine led to this issue’s cellar design
profiles. One of Anthony Dias Blue’s “Tasting Panel”
regulars, Kia resides in Montecito and Los Angeles with her
photographer husband. When not touring international
wine regions, Kia may be found cycling the scenic back
roads of Santa Barbara’s wine country.
Kelly Mahan
has been Managing Editor of Montecito Journal since 2008. She
moved to Santa Barbara to attend UCSB where she received
her degree in Political Science. Kelly found her niche in
journalism interning with a local TV station covering local
interest stories including the Santa Barbara International Film
Festival and major wildfires. Kelly has also worked several
red carpet events including the Golden Globes, American
Music Awards, and Academy of Country Music Awards. In
the mornings she can be found pursuing another passion:
teaching Pilates.
James Buckley
, founder/publisher of Montecito Journal Weekly, is an avid
golfer who has allowed his love of the game to get in
the way of his other avocation: writing and publishing
a Thedim Fiste Mystery series, based upon the life,
foibles, exploits and discoveries of an editor of a weekly
newspaper in a small upscale community on the California
coast.
Hattie Beresford
is a native of the Netherlands, and received her Bachelor’s
degree and teaching credential from University of
California Santa Barbara. She taught English and
American history for the Santa Barbara School District for
many years and retired from teaching in 2004. When she
is not immersed in some dusty tome, she can be found on
the tennis courts, hiking trails, or out on a kayak marveling
at the dolphins. She and her husband, former Dos Pueblos
volleyball coach Mike Beresford, are avid campers and
travelers.
Lynn P. Kirst
, a regular columnist for Montecito Journal, considers México one
of her favorite foreign destinations, having made nearly two
dozen trips south of the border to explore the art, architecture,
folk traditions and cuisine of México’s various regions. In

baroque mission churches found in the remote Sierra Gorda
mountain range. A fourth generation Californian who grew
up in Montecito, Lynn holds a degree in Art History from the
University of Southern California and a Graduate Certificate in
Historic Preservation from the USC School of Architecture. She
is a freelance writer on a variety of subjects.

accompanies him in the field. Randy has written for the
Santa Barbara Independent, Santa Barbara News-Press,
and is currently a garden columnist for Montecito Journal.
He is also featured in the spring edition of Weird N.J.
