              Pommard, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Gevrey-Chambertin, Vougeot,
            
            
              and many other household names; all come from this small region.
            
            
              Not far and just northwest of the small town of St-Jean-de-
            
            
              Losne, where we boarded the Aprés Tout, is Dijon, famous for its
            
            
              mustard and its cuisine; a short trip south will lead you to Lyon, the
            
            
              food capital of France. Both cities are reachable by water, Dijon
            
            
              via the canal, Lyon by the meandering Saône, the area’s chief river,
            
            
              which merges with the Rhone just past Lyon.

              Our companions onboard Aprés Tout are Australians Lina
            
            
              and Quinto (Quin) Scalzo, whose trip to Europe will last a month
            
            
              and include a 10-day bus tour of Scotland and Ireland, then to
            
            
              meet their son and his wife in Provence before heading back to
            
            
              The tree-lined Canal de Bourgogne features walking/biking paths on both sides and for its
            
            
              entire length. Forward, past the chaise lounges and teak deck, is a six-person spa (covered)
            
            
              and six bicycles ready for use at all times.
            
            
              Each lock has a number and a name and comes with a lockkeeper and a generally well-
            
            
              kept small stone cottage; the benefit of a state-sponsored abode is being phased out, but
            
            
              anyone lucky enough to inhabit one has been “grandfathered” in
