In this studio portrait, probably made in
Paris after she had moved to the French
capital, Ganna Walska wears one of the
many furs she owned during her life. Later,
in her autobiography, she wrote passionately
“with regard to every other fur-coated animal
tortured in abominable horrors and killed in
excruciating agony in order to enrich a fur
dealer or to give depressing vibrations to
whoever wears them. Not to speak of the
follies some women commit in order to get
their mink, ermine, or silver fox coat.”
